Benzing of Towson University Receives Academic All-America Honors

Towson senior men’s swimmer Brian Benzing has been recognized for his outstanding performance in both the pool and the classroom. On Wednesday, Benzing was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America second team, with a 3.76 GPA and majoring in sports marketing.

Benzing has had a standout swimming career at Towson, winning the CAA Men’s Swimmer of the Year award for the fourth consecutive season. At the NCAA Championship, he received All-America honors after finishing second in the 100 breast with a record-setting time of 50.59. In addition to being an honorable mention All-American in the 200 breast, setting a CAA record with a time of 1:52.71 in prelims, Benzing also placed 23rd in the 200 IM at the NCAA’s, setting another CAA record with a time of 1:42.82.

At the CAA Championship, Benzing was named Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet for three years running. He won four individual events including two golds and two silvers and was part of Towson’s 800 free relay team that set a meet record in
