Annual Symposium at UWM Showcases AI Discussion at Northwestern Mutual Data Science Institute

The Northwestern Mutual Data Science Institute (NMDSI), a joint initiative between the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), Marquette University, and Northwestern Mutual, is set to host its second annual symposium on April 24 at the UWM Student Union. This event is open to the public and aims to explore the ever-changing landscape of artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential impact on innovation and society.

Throughout the day, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about various aspects of AI, hear from experts in industry and academia, and connect with others in the AI and data science field. The symposium will kick off with a fireside chat featuring NMDSI leadership, UWM Chancellor Mark Mone, Marquette President Michael Lovell, and Northwestern Mutual Chief Customer Officer Christian Mitchell. Following the chat, there will be a keynote address by Chris Wiggins, a Columbia University professor and author, discussing the role of data-empowered products and automated decision systems in shaping our political, professional, and personal experiences.

For a detailed schedule of sessions and speakers, as well as registration information, visit the symposium’s website. The event will also be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person.

At its core, NMDSI is committed to building a technology ecosystem that positions southeastern Wisconsin as a national center for technology research, business development, and talent growth. Since its establishment in 2018, NMDSI has been at the forefront of promoting academic learning in data science and technology while driving innovation in areas such as AI ethics
