UMBC is seeking a Visiting Professor in Psychological Science

The University of Maryland, Baltimore County’s (UMBC) Department of Africana Studies is currently seeking applicants for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in Psychological Science with a focus on African-centered or Black Psychology. Ideal candidates will have a PhD in Psychological Science and incorporate these areas into their teaching, research, and service. They should also have experience working with African American or African diasporic communities using a community-based participatory approach. Candidates who hold a PhD or advanced ABD, as well as university-level teaching experience, will receive preference.

This position offers the opportunity to teach cross-listed courses with the Psychology Department and School of Social Work, while being located within the Africana Studies Department. Successful candidates will teach five courses per academic year, including at least one introductory course each semester. Research areas such as culture, mental health disparities education, positive youth development, family science, racial identity, racial stress and trauma, diversity science, and intergroup relations are encouraged for applicants to explore. Additionally, candidates should have experience with multi-disciplinary or collaborative research and be committed to creating student-centered learning environments.
