Witnesses state that two thieves burglarize a business on Chicago’s West Side and make off with an ATM

In the early hours of Friday morning, two thieves broke into a currency exchange in the West Town neighborhood of Chicago and stole an ATM machine. The incident occurred at around 2:30 a.m. in the 1500 block of West Division Street. According to a witness, the offenders smashed the front door glass and removed the ATM machine before fleeing in a white van.

This burglary is part of an increasing trend of ATM thefts in the area. In January, another currency exchange was targeted for its ATM when thieves drove a Jeep Cherokee through the front window near Roosevelt and Jefferson Street. Another currency exchange on the city’s near West Side was also recently broken into, with burglars breaking the front glass door to take the machine containing an unspecified amount of money. The owner mentioned that this has happened multiple times before, but it is unclear if these burglaries are connected.

No one is currently in custody for the West Town ATM burglary, and Area 3 detectives continue to investigate the incident.
