New York Yankees reveal 26-player roster for MLB Opening Day 2024

The New York Yankees are preparing for the beginning of the 2024 season, facing off against the Houston Astros on Opening Day. However, injuries to key players such as Gerrit Cole, DJ LeMahieu, and Oswald Peraza have led to changes in the projected 26-man roster.

Manager Aaron Boone will rely on the best players from spring training and a recent acquisition to strengthen the bench depth. In the starting lineup, LeMahieu will be absent due to a foot injury, with Berti stepping in as the third baseman after being traded from the Miami Marlins. The everyday starters remain largely intact.

On the bench, Wells will serve as the backup catcher behind Trevino, with Cabrera ready to play first base and also fill in as an outfielder if needed. Rortvedt was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays, leaving Wells as the lone backup catcher.

The rotation will see Gil as the fifth starter in place of Cole’s injury. Cortes will take the mound on Opening Day, hoping for a strong performance along with Rodon. The rotation’s success will determine Gil’s future on the team. Weaver will begin the season in the bullpen with Gil joining the starting rotation.
