On Monday, April 29th, Fort Hays State University’s Science Café will feature a presentation on “Endogenous retroviruses: Hidden hitchhikers and how they spread.” The event is sponsored by FHSU’s Science and Mathematics Education Institute and will be held at The Venue in Thirsty’s Brew Pub & Grill.
Dr. Eric Gillock, a professor of biological sciences at FHSU, will lead the discussion on these genetic parasites that make themselves at home without invitation in the genomes of most eukaryotic cells. Similar to unwanted houseguests, endogenous retroviruses are difficult to remove.
