Buckhorn High School sophomore Caleb Holt made history by becoming the first sophomore to win the 42nd Mr. Basketball award from the Alabama Sports Writers Association. This impressive feat was not his only accomplishment for the season, as he also received Class 6A Player of the Year honors at a recent high school basketball banquet in Montgomery.

Holt’s outstanding stats for the year included an average of 20.2 points, 9.5 rebounds, three steals, and 2.4 assists, leading his team to a 23-5 record. Recruitment is also on Holt’s mind as he is a highly sought-after prospect with offers from top programs like Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Houston, and Cincinnati. He has visited both Auburn and Alabama and is impressed by their coaching staff and programs but has yet to make a decision on his future.

Holt credits his father with keeping him humble and pushing him to be the best player he can be as he continues to excel on the court. With two years of high school left before graduation, he remains determined to achieve even greater success in both basketball and academics in order to reach all that he aspires to do.
