Cowboys Sign RB Ezekiel Elliott to One-Year, $3 Million Contract Extension

Running back Ezekiel Elliott is returning to Dallas to reunite with the Cowboys after a year away. Despite making over $70 million in his career with the Cowboys, Elliott will be taking a pay cut this time around as he signs a one-year, $3 million deal with $2 million guaranteed. Despite rumors of a potential changing of the guard at running back after Tony Pollard was drafted in 2019, Elliott left for the New England Patriots on a one-year deal in 2022. However, Pollard’s departure to the Tennessee Titans in the offseason and Elliott’s uncertain future led to rumors of a potential reunion with the Cowboys. After meeting with the team just before the 2024 NFL Draft, it became clear that both parties were interested in working together again. With Dallas not selecting a running back in the draft, bringing back Elliott was the next move. Although Elliott’s reduced salary reflects his declining on-field performance and current running back market, he is eager to prove himself once again in Dallas. Despite not reaching 1,000 rushing yards since 2021 and having a lower average per game in 2023, Elliott believes he has more to give to his team. The Cowboys are optimistic that they can reignite his career and help him return to top form.
