The joint power agreement between Tri-City Healthcare District in Oceanside, Calif., and UC San Diego Health is still in the works, as reported by The San Diego Union-Tribune on April 21. Initially expected to be completed by the end of March, the agreement would give UC San Diego Health administrative, clinical, and operational management authority over all of Tri-City’s healthcare services.
In October, Tri-City selected UC San Diego Health as a partner for the agreement, with an initial plan that involved UC San Diego Health assuming Tri-City’s debts. Despite ongoing challenges and delays in finalizing the agreement, both organizations remain dedicated to stabilizing healthcare services in the area.
UC San Diego Health CEO Patricia Maysent expressed strong commitment to getting the agreement done, acknowledging the challenges faced by Tri-City due to the pandemic and a cyberattack in November. In response to these challenges, Tri-City has been working closely with UC San Diego Health to ensure financial stability. UC San Diego Health conducted a thorough analysis of Tri-City’s financials to validate that they were meeting all targets and forecasts.
Recently, Tri-City experienced positive margins for the first time in around two years at the beginning of 2024. This success is attributed to their collaboration with UC San Diego Health and their efforts towards financial stability.
