How will Monday’s union protest affect the flight schedule?

This Monday morning, aeronautical unions are planning to hold “information assemblies” at both the metropolitan Aeroparque and Ezeiza. These events are expected to disrupt flights scheduled between 8 and 11 in the morning. Despite this, Aerolíneas Argentinas’ flight schedules are running smoothly and there is no risk of cancellations.

The unions have been opposing the Milei government’s policies since before taking office, particularly regarding the privatization of Aerolíneas Argentinas. The DNU 70 decision included privatization of the airline and the repeal of subsidies that the State provided. Several aeronautical unions, including the Airline Pilots Association (APLA), Association of Aeronautical Technicians (APTA), Senior Staff Union (UPSA), and Aeronautical Personnel Association (APA), are participating in the protest.

The first protest on Monday will be followed by another on Thursday, with a general strike planned for Thursday. Aerolíneas Argentinas aims to minimize disruptions to their approximately 300 flights throughout the day, while low-cost airlines like Flybondi do not anticipate any cancellations. However, JetSmart may experience some affected flights due to ramp services provided by Intercargo.

These protests will not be limited to this week alone, with additional actions planned in front of the National Congress in future weeks. Foreign airlines landing in Ezeiza have not yet announced any disruptions due to the protests. The unions are calling for ongoing action to push back against government policies and defend the rights of aeronautical employees.

The Bases Law project is at the heart of these protests as it includes reducing non-taxable minimums which may cause many aeronautical employees to start paying Income Tax again.
