The Rangers secure a close 5-4 victory against the Tigers

On Wednesday, the Detroit Tigers lost to the Texas Rangers 5-4 in a thrilling ninth-inning comeback. The winning run was driven in by a clutch pinch-hit double by Josh Smith, who singled and advanced to second on an error by first baseman Spencer Torkelson.

The game was filled with excitement as both teams made errors that affected the outcome of the game. The Tigers’ Shelby Miller took the loss after committing three errors, leading to two unearned runs. Meanwhile, Kirby Yates earned the win for the Rangers by pitching the final four outs, including striking out the side in the ninth inning.

The game started off on a sour note for Detroit as an error by Tarik Skubal allowed Marcus Semien to reach base. Adolis Garcia scored on Semien’s sacrifice fly, giving Texas an early lead. Kerry Carpenter tied the game for Detroit with a home run in the second inning. However, fielding errors plagued Detroit throughout the game, allowing Texas to score three runs in the sixth inning and ultimately taking home victory.

Dane Dunning started the game for Texas while Skubal pitched 6 1/3 innings for Detroit. Despite their efforts, Detroit fell short of avoiding falling below .500 under manager Bruce Bochy.

In preparation for their next game against each other, both teams are getting ready to face some familiar faces once again. In this series finale, Rangers’ top draft pick Jack Leiter will make his major league debut while Kenta Maeda will start for Detroit’s offense and defense respectively.

Overall, it was a tight battle between two talented teams that came down to one crucial play at bat and several costly mistakes in fielding.
