Broncos and CHSAA collaborate to recognize girls flag football as official high school sport in Colorado

In 2021, The Denver Broncos Foundation collaborated with the Broncos and CHSAA to launch Colorado’s girls flag football pilot program. The Foundation funded the inaugural seasons from 2022-23, involving 50 schools, 10 school districts, and nearly 1,500 girls who participated in around 850 games.

The program experienced significant growth in 2023, with a 161 percent increase in participants (1,316) and a 310 percent increase in the number of games played (680). CHSAA Commissioner Mike Krueger expressed his excitement over the program’s success, emphasizing the values of empowerment, teamwork, and breaking barriers that it promotes.

Broncos leadership and players have been actively involved in these events, demonstrating their backing for the program and its participants. With the sport now officially sanctioned by CHSAA, the Denver Broncos Foundation will continue its support through seasonal programming, coaching clinics, recognition for athletes and coaches, and initiatives promoting youth health and wellness.

The foundation aims to nurture leadership, confidence, and equality both on and off the field. It paves the way for inclusivity and self-empowerment among all girls who participate in this exciting new sport.
