Three students recognized with national college media business awards

At a ceremony held on April 19, three student leaders from WKU Student Publications were recognized by College Media Business & Advertising Managers. Emma Bayens, a senior majoring in photojournalism from Louisville, won first place in the category of Best Multimedia Content Creator. Rhiannon Johnston, also a junior majoring in photojournalism and advertising from Louisville, received third place in the same category. Abby Loftus, a senior majoring in advertising and strategic communications from Troy, Illinois, was awarded third place in the Best Sales Representative category.

Emma Bayens is the co-director of Cherry Creative and has demonstrated exceptional skills as a photojournalist. Rhiannon Johnston is an accomplished video editor for Cherry Creative who has honed her skills in multimedia content creation. Abby Loftus has excelled as the student publications advertising manager and is skilled at sales representation.

The student staffs of Student Publications Advertising and Cherry Creative work together to generate revenue that sustains the operations of student publications. Assistant Director Sam Oldenburg advises both groups.

WKU Student Publications encompasses four areas led by students: Talisman, a life and culture magazine founded in 1924; College Heights Herald, a news organization established in 1925; Student Publications Advertising, a sales team launched in 1925; and Cherry Creative, a branded content studio launched in 2018. These divisions collaborate to create engaging content and provide advertising opportunities for clients looking to reach the WKU community.
