The Intersection of Climate Change and Health: A Focus of the Upcoming Science Talk

“Science on the Sound” is an exciting monthly lecture series hosted at the Coastal Studies Institute on ECU’s Outer Banks Campus in Wanchese. The series brings together perspectives from all over North Carolina and focuses specifically on coastal issues in northeastern North Carolina.

At the upcoming “Science on the Sound” event, Dr. Alex Hodges, a clinical professor in ECU’s Department of Advanced Nursing Practice and Education, will be presenting on the potential risks and hazards associated with climate change. Her presentation titled “Ready for Change: Building Effective Climate Readiness” will take place on May 23 at 6 p.m.

Dr. Hodges is a renowned climate change expert who has worked with organizations such as Americares and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Her research focuses specifically on the climate impacts within Eastern North Carolina, and during her session, she will provide a unique perspective as a nurse practitioner on climate change and its implications for primary care.

Dr. Hodges also volunteers at the Community Care Clinic of Dare, providing primary care services to those in need, and serves on the Dare County Board of Health and Human Services. This free event is open to the public and will be live-streamed on CSI’s YouTube channel, making it accessible to all who are interested in learning more about climate change and how to prepare for related challenges.
