Mahnomen Health Center to Discontinue Inpatient Hospital Services

Health officials in Mahnomen have recently announced their plans to discontinue inpatient hospital services in the area, as part of a larger plan to transition from a critical access hospital to a rural emergency hospital. Despite these changes, Mahnomen Health Center will continue to provide outpatient and emergency services to the community.

In order to address financial challenges, the facility has decided to make this transition, which will no longer offer inpatient services or swing beds. However, residents of Mahnomen would need to travel approximately 30 miles to reach the nearest full-service hospitals in Fosston or Ada. The closest regional hospital would be about 35 miles away in Detroit Lakes.

Community members are encouraged to participate in a public hearing on April 30 at 6 p.m., hosted by the Minnesota Department of Health, which will discuss Mahnomen Health Center’s shift to a rural emergency hospital. This hearing will allow community members to voice their opinions and explore alternative options for patients of Mahnomen Health Center. Additional information about the meeting can be found on the MDH website.

Overall, the decision to eliminate inpatient services at Mahnomen Health Center is part of a larger effort to ensure the facility’s viability amid financial challenges. Community input and participation in the public hearing will be valuable in shaping the future of healthcare services in the area.
