USATF Reevaluates Decision and Agrees to Send U20 World Team

USATF has reversed its previous decision to not field a team at the World U20 Championships in Lima, Peru, which will take place in August. The decision to participate came after consultation with World Athletics and the Local Organizing Committee in Lima, providing assurance of safety measures in place for the event.

The initial decision not to send a U.S. team was based on concerns about travel advisories, competitive readiness, and safety. However, USATF has now confirmed that they will be sending a team to represent Team USA at the Championships taking place August 26-31, 2024 in Lima, Peru.

The safety and well-being of athletes, coaches, managers, and staff remain a top priority for USATF. They are committed to providing the highest level of competitive opportunities for their athletes on their journey to success. The full team announcement will be made after the USATF Under-20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

This marks the first time since 2021 that the U.S. will participate in the World U20 Championships, which were held in Nairobi, Kenya due to safety concerns and COVID-19 restrictions. In 2026, the U.S. will host the championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
