Comparative & Multi-Method Approaches in Political Economy Research: 2024 APSA Dissertation Workshop

The 2024 APSA Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, PA will feature a Comparative & Multi-Method Approaches workshop on Wednesday, September 4. Co-Leaders will guide early career researchers in applying mixed methods to political economy questions.

During this workshop, participants will learn how to use multiple methodologies to investigate key political economy issues such as redistribution, democratization, economic policy, unionization, and social policy. By understanding the variation in democratic policy and politics across different countries, participants can gain a comprehensive understanding of political economy research.

The workshop is open to anyone using two or more research methods in their thesis. While individual chapters may focus on a single method, participants should be prepared to discuss how their work fits into their broader dissertation. Research on any area within political economy and any geographic focus is welcome.

This workshop is part of APSA’s annual sponsorship of in-person and virtual dissertation workshops. In-person events take place the Wednesday before the Annual Meeting, while virtual workshops occur over a three-week period in the summer. Each workshop includes presentations from six PhD candidates and is led by two faculty members who facilitate discussions. To apply for this exciting research opportunity, submit your application by May 19, 2024.
