Outstanding Spring Sports Performers in Somerset County from April 14-20

The Gene Schultz Memorial Tournament saw Bishop McCort emerge as champions, defeating Conemaugh Township 5-0 in the championship game. Despite Zack Petree’s impressive three-hit performance for Conemaugh Township, it was not enough to overcome Bishop McCort’s dominant play.

In another game on Sunday, Shanksville-Stonycreek fell to United 20-2 in the consolation game. D.J. Bambino led the offense for Shanksville-Stonycreek with four hits and two RBIs in their semifinal win over Conemaugh Township.

Moving on to softball, Meyersdale cruised to an 18-3 victory over Blacklick Valley on Monday. Jessica Daughton and Marcella Dupre were standout players for Meyersdale, each contributing three hits and three RBIs to the offensive outburst. Laurel Daniels, Amber Long, Morgan Walters, Izabella Donaldson, and Zoe Hetz also played important roles in the win.

In track and field action on Monday, Berlin Brothersvalley had a mixed day against Everett. The girls won 98-50 while the boys fell 119-30. Several athletes from Berlin had standout performances including Mikaela Glessner, Deborah Bozovich, Zoraeja Miller, Lexi Fairman, Lexi Foor, and Addisyn Glessner. Connor Montgomery also won the pole vault for the boys’ team.

On Saturday in baseball action Windber dominated Portage with a dominant performance winning 16-0 in just four innings. Andrew Scalia led the way with two hits including a grand slam and four RBIs while Lucas Oleksa also contributed with two hits including a 3-run home run and four RBIs
