TSMC announces production of ‘A16’ chipmaking technology set to begin in late 2026

In the second half of 2026, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) will commence production of a new chip manufacturing technology called “A16” in Santa Clara, California. This was announced by TSMC’s co-Chief Operating Officer Y.J. Mii at a conference in the same city. The A16 technology will deliver power to computing chips from the backside of the chip, enhancing their speed and providing an edge over competitors in artificial intelligence (AI) chips.

TSMC is currently known as the world’s largest contract manufacturer of chips for companies such as Nvidia and produces some of the fastest chips on the market. However, Intel recently announced its “14A” technology, which it expects to surpass TSMC’s capabilities in terms of speed in 2026.
