Limited testing period announced for Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Sports Park

Kai Tak Sports Park Limited and ASM Global have announced a late-winter testing period for Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Sports Park, a $4 billion multi-venue sports district project. The centerpiece of the nearly 70-acre district is the Kai Tak Stadium, a 50,000-seat venue with a retractable roof and flexible playing surface known as “the Pearl of the Orient.” In addition to the stadium, there is a 10,000-capacity indoor sports arena, and a 5,000-spectator public sports ground for school sports days and athletic events.

The sustainability focus of the district includes solar panels on each facility, green roofscapes in the design, and an extensive network of electric charging stations throughout. Smart city initiatives will also be implemented, including an intelligent building and car management system, Wi-Fi hotspots, an indoor positioning system, and mobile applications for booking facilities and wayfinding within the precinct.

ASM Global has been responsible for project management, premium sales, and programming for the past five years and will operate the district once it opens. Populous was in charge of master planning the district and designing the venues, while Simon Kwan & Associates served as the architect of record. Landscape architecture design was provided by ADI Limited
