U.S. News & World Report recently released its list of top high schools across the United States, with 200 schools in Kentucky included in the rankings. The publication evaluated factors such as college readiness, graduation rates, and state assessment proficiency for nearly 25,000 schools to determine the rankings. Despite criticism that the ranking methodology favors wealthier communities, as reported by the Detroit Free Press, Kentucky schools were well-represented in the rankings.
Among the recognized schools in Kentucky, 28 JCPS magnet schools and programs will no longer receive busing. The list of top schools included a variety of institutions from different areas of the state. In Kentucky, the top ten high schools according to U.S. News & World Report were highlighted, along with the best public high schools in Lexington based on ranking criteria.
However, some criticisms have been raised regarding U.S. News & World Report’s ranking methodology which tends to favor wealthier communities. This has led to backlash against this approach as it doesn’t provide an accurate representation of school quality across all areas of society.
