Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu launches attack on Hamas as new conflict erupts in Gaza today

Netanyahu has made it clear that Israel will not accept Hamas’ demands and will continue to fight until all its objectives are achieved. He reiterated this stance in video statements following the October 7 attack in Israel and the start of Israeli military operations against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Hamas’ demands, which he sees as surrender, will not be accepted by Israel. Netanyahu stated that Israel cannot agree to a situation where Hamas regains control of Gaza and rebuilds its military infrastructure to threaten Israeli citizens.

As hopes for a ceasefire agreement grew and efforts were made to secure the release of hostages held in Gaza, Netanyahu insisted that Israel will not accept the end of the military campaign and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Strip. He accused Hamas of remaining entrenched in their positions, while Israel expressed openness to reaching an agreement. Hamas, on the other hand, has been calling for a ceasefire to end the aggression, withdraw Israeli soldiers from Gaza, and facilitate a serious prisoner exchange.

In response to escalating tensions, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant warned that the operation in Rafah would begin soon if an agreement was not reached. The situation was further complicated by the decision to shut down Al-Jazeera in Israel, a move condemned by the network and criticized as a violation of press freedom. Meanwhile, rocket attacks from Lebanon added to the tensions in the region.
