Clifford Omoruyi, a standout shot-blocker, moves to Alabama from Rutgers

Alabama is strengthening its roster for the 2024-25 season with the transfer of Clifford Omoruyi from Rutgers. Omoruyi, ranked as the No. 13 player in CBS Sports’ Transfer Rankings, is known for his shot-blocking abilities and recorded 93 blocks before the NCAA Tournament during his four seasons at Rutgers.

Throughout his career, Omoruyi started 104 games and averaged 10.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks in 26 minutes per game. This marks the fourth transfer that Alabama’s head coach Nate Oats and his staff have added this offseason, with Omoruyi joining Aden Holloway from Auburn, Chris Youngblood from USF, and Houston Mallette from Pepperdine.

Alabama will have to adjust to the departure of six players from their Final Four roster from the previous season, including Mohamed Wague, Nick Pringle, and Sam Walters. However, this influx of new talent sets up Alabama for a strong campaign in the upcoming season as they aim to build on their recent success with a No. 2 recruiting class from the 2024 cycle featuring top talents like five-star center Derrion Reid, four-star forward Aiden Sherrell, four-star guard Labaron Philon, and four-star forward Naas Cunningham.
