A couple in Hamburg had a harrowing experience when they lost control of their new Jaguar and narrowly escaped being hit by a freight train. The driver, a 26-year-old woman, was turning left from a gas station onto the main road when she lost control of the car. The vehicle veered into oncoming traffic and crashed onto the sidewalk before coming to rest on the railway tracks.
Fortunately, both occupants were unharmed, but the incident was not without consequence. As a freight train approached, the locomotive driver was able to stop just 50 meters from the accident scene. The fire department and police had to remove a demolished fence and use a Unimog to pull the car off the tracks. The road had to be closed for an hour for rescue work and investigation.
This incident was not unique, as a similar accident occurred at that location in the past. The Federal Police are currently investigating the cause of the accident, but it serves as a reminder of the dangers of reckless driving and staying alert on the road is crucial to avoid such close calls in future.
