Man pleads guilty to charges related to business burglaries

Amar Kovacevic, who was one of the individuals involved in multiple business burglaries, recently had a change of plea and received a sentencing for the case. Initially, Kovacevic faced charges of burglary, theft, unlawful vehicle entry, and refusal to halt in relation to the December 2023 burglaries. However, on May 6th, he pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary and one count of theft. The other charges against him were dropped.

Kovacevic has been sentenced to five years in the Department of Corrections but will serve less than a year due to receiving credit for the 137 days already spent behind bars. He must first serve one year and one day followed by 18 months of supervised probation. His accomplice, Jacob Iten, has numerous open cases related to burglary, theft, and drug possession. With over 20 counts across six court cases from December 2023 to May 2024, Iten was most recently charged with theft and burglary on May 7th in Cass County where there is currently a warrant out for his arrest.

Kovacevic’s change in plea marks a significant development in the case as it reduces the number of charges he faces. However, it also highlights the ongoing criminal activity that took place during the December 2023 burglaries. Iten’s extensive criminal history adds another layer of complexity to this case.

The sentence handed down to Kovacevic reflects the seriousness of his actions but also acknowledges his cooperation with authorities by accepting responsibility for his crimes early on in the process.

As for Iten’s open cases, they remain a concern as they indicate that he may continue to engage in illegal activities if not properly rehabilitated. The warrant out for his arrest adds urgency to this matter as law enforcement officials work tirelessly to bring him into custody.

In conclusion, while Kovacevic’s change in plea brings some closure to this case, there is still much work left to be done in addressing both individuals’ criminal behavior and preventing future instances of property damage or harm caused by their actions.
