Bank of Israel Issues Coins Commemorating Black Saturday on October 7 for Independence Day

Israelis came together in unity and support following the unprecedented terrorist attack on Black Saturday on October 7th. To commemorate this momentous occasion, the State Bank of Israel has released a set of commemorative coins with the slogan “Israel Beyahad” (together). These coins symbolize the strength and cohesion that emerged from this tragedy, and serve as a tribute to the resilience of the Israeli people.

The State Bank of Israel has been issuing Independence Day commemorative coins annually since 1958, with each design reflecting significant events in Israel’s history. This year’s coin design was inspired by the War of Iron Swords, which brought both tragedy and unity among Israelis. The reverse of the coins features a sketch by artist Tsvika Roitman showing hands reaching out to each other against a backdrop of a kibbutz house and a tractor, with the number 76 prominently displayed. The obverse includes inscriptions in Hebrew, English, and Arabic alongside a symbol created by artist Eitan Alon depicting six hands holding each other.

The commemorative coins are available in denominations of 10 shekels (jewelry gold), 2 shekels (jewelry silver), and 1 shekel (plain silver) and can be purchased from the State Coinage Company of Israel. These coins serve as a powerful reminder of the unity and resilience that emerged from adversity, and stand as a testament to the strength of the Israeli people.
