Government promises continuation of “Perpi-Rungis” new produce train despite CGT’s disbelief

The Rungis market in Val-de-Marne has seen a renewed focus from the State on its early produce train. In response to staff concerns about the future of the line, Minister of Transport Patrice Vergriete announced that expressions of interest will be called for to ensure the relaunch of the rail service after maintenance work. This decision is crucial as the early morning train is a rail freight line that transports fruits and vegetables from various regions to Rungis MIN from Perpignan.

The train operates from mid-October to the end of June, taking a break during the off-peak period. It plays a significant role in reducing the number of trucks on the roads by around 80 and saves 44 tonnes of CO2 emissions daily. By prioritizing the relaunch of this service, the State aims to ensure continuity and reduce environmental impact.

Overall, the early produce train is a vital link in transporting fresh produce from different regions to Rungis market. The decision to prioritize its relaunch comes after serious concerns were raised about its future. The call for expressions of interest aims to ensure that this important service continues while also contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable transportation system.

In conclusion, it is clear that the State recognizes the importance of this rail service in transporting fresh produce and reducing carbon emissions. By prioritizing its relaunch, they are ensuring continuity while also making sure that it contributes positively towards sustainability goals.
