The Trial of Donald Trump, Michael Cohen, and Stormy Daniels: Former President and Lawyer to Face Off

In the upcoming trial, former American president Donald Trump will face the testimony of his former lawyer and right-hand man, Michael Cohen. Cohen, who facilitated the payments, has already pleaded guilty to several crimes related to the irregular financing of Trump’s electoral campaign. This led to payments to two alleged lovers of the politician, one of them being Stormy Daniels.

Cohen is a key witness in the Manhattan tax office’s case against Trump, which has accused him of 34 crimes related to falsifying accounting books in connection to payments made during the 2016 presidential campaign. Last week, Stormy Daniels also took the stand and detailed her encounter with the former president in 2006.

During Daniels’ testimony, the defense tried to discredit her by branding her a liar and stating that the payment made by Trump through Cohen was a result of extortion. However, prosecutors have been calling on former employees and associates to provide evidence against Trump and establish his involvement in concealing payments to Daniels.

In courtroom proceedings, Trump has maintained a restrained attitude while his social media comments have landed him fines for violating a gag order. The prosecution is expected to conclude its presentation of arguments and evidence this week after which Trump’s lawyers will have an opportunity to defend him. The trial began in April but has been ongoing for over a month now.

Despite facing legal challenges, Trump is actively campaigning for the upcoming November presidential elections. He continues to complain about political persecution and aims to defend his innocence against accusations brought against him. This week, he will be absent from court on Wednesday and Friday as he attends his son Barron’s school graduation ceremony.
