Three-time F1 world champion Verstappen included in the 2024 Time 100 list

Max Verstappen has had an impressive run in Formula 1 over the past three seasons, with 19 victories out of the 22 races on the calendar in 2023. He clinched the drivers’ championship last year in early October after finishing second in the Qatar sprint race. His outstanding achievements have landed him a spot on this year’s Time 100 list, which includes a diverse range of global icons from various industries.

Sean Gregory, Time’s senior sports correspondent, highlighted Verstappen’s incredible driving skills and confidence behind the wheel, noting an incident where he watched the battles on the track behind him during a race. Among the athletes on this year’s list are Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, rugby star Siya Kolisi who led South Africa to victory in the 2023 Rugby World Cup, and Jenni Hermoso who secured the 2023 Women’s Football World Cup win with Spain.

The Time 100, established in 1999, will host a summit on 24 April and a gala on 15 May, and selected members from this year’s list will be invited to attend. Verstappen has an impressive F1 track record with 57 race victories, 36 pole positions, and a record as the youngest driver to debut in F1 at the age of 17 in 2015. His move to Red Bull in 2016 saw him win his first race for the team at the Spanish Grand Prix, and he famously defeated Lewis Hamilton in a controversial title battle in Abu Dhabi in 2021.

Verstappen’s inclusion in the Time 100 list is not the first for an F1 driver, as Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher have previously been recognized in the prestigious list. It remains to be seen if Verstappen will attend
