Fundraiser organized by Barstool Sports raises $600,000 for family of slain sheriff’s deputy

Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, has raised $600,000 for the family of slain Onondaga County Sheriff Lt. Michael Hosock. The fundraiser was initiated in response to the tragic loss of Lt. Hosock and Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen, who were killed in a violent incident in Salina. Portnoy’s generosity serves as a reminder of the power of solidarity and support in times of tragedy.

Portnoy is known for his candid opinions and previously visited Syracuse for a Barstool competition. He did, however, criticize the Northern Lights Plaza in Mattydale as “disgusting.” Despite his mixed reviews, he has continued to support the community in times of need. Portnoy himself matched $200,000 donation from UFC president Dana White with another $300,000, bringing the total raised so far to $600,000 through t-shirt sales.

As the community comes together to mourn the loss of these brave officers, Portnoy’s actions demonstrate a deep care and concern for their well-being. Despite any criticisms he may have had about certain aspects of the city, his generosity serves as an example of how coming together can help those in need during difficult times.
