Instagram Live on April 22: Rising Temperatures, Declining Health

The world is facing a pressing issue with climate change, which is estimated to lead to an additional 250,000 deaths annually globally between 2030 and 2050. Malnutrition, malaria, diarrhea, and heat stress are some of the adverse health effects that will result from this phenomenon. In addition to this, the direct health costs are expected to reach $2 billion to $4 billion per year by 2030. Health professionals have a crucial role in educating patients and addressing the adverse health effects from extreme weather events, respiratory ailments, premature births, and mental health issues.

Experts in the field will discuss practical strategies for mitigation and adaptation during a live discussion on Monday, April 22 at 12:30 PM ET. The panel will include prominent figures such as Jeremy Faust, MD, Lisa Patel, MD, MESc., and Elizabeth A. Cerceo, MD who are all advocates for climate and health. Participants are encouraged to submit questions before the event on topics related to climate change and its impact on health such as disease transmission and clinicians’ role in addressing climate-related health issues.
