353 Ballerinas in New York Break World Record by Staying on Their Toes

In recent news, the Plaza Hotel in New York City hosted a unique event that broke a Guinness World Record. The nonprofit organization Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) celebrated its 25th anniversary by gathering 353 ballerinas in white tutus at the hotel. During the event, all 353 ballerinas danced en pointe, or on their toes, for a full minute, surpassing the previous record of 309 dancers set in 2019.

The main goal of the event was to highlight the healing power of dance and its ability to bring people together during times of disconnection. Sergey Gordeev, the director of external affairs at YAGP, shared with Gothamist that dance is a powerful tool for unifying and uplifting people.

Gordeev explained, “The big why of why we’re doing it is to really let the world know that dance is a healing force. Dance is a power that brings us connection at a time when we’re so disconnected.” The event not only set a new world record but also emphasized the importance of dance as an art form that can bring people together in a positive way.
