What is the date of the 2024 Elections in Panama?

In 2024, Panama will hold its general elections on Sunday, May 5th. This year, the country’s citizens will have the opportunity to elect their next president and vice president of the Republic, as well as 20 representatives to Central American Parliament (Parlacen) for the mandate from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2029. Additionally, seven mayors and over 701 township representatives will be elected during these general elections.

Eight candidates are vying for the presidency of Panama in these elections. The election of district mayors and township representatives will take place by simple majority in a single turn. This will mark the seventh election since the US invasion ended Manuel Antonio Noriega’s dictatorship in 1989.

The Electoral Court predicts a participation rate of approximately 80% of those registered to vote. A total of over 2,982 voting centers have been set up across the country for voters to cast their ballots. These elections are expected to be significant as they determine who will lead Panama into the future.
