Blizzard Cancels BlizzCon 2024, Promising Return in Future Editions

Blizzard has announced that it will not be hosting its annual BlizzCon event in 2024, but the company is not stopping there. Despite the cancellation, they will still be celebrating Warcraft’s 30th anniversary and participating in other industry conventions such as Gamescom. In a message on their website, Blizzard reassured fans that they have no intention of abandoning their community of players and plan to bring back BlizzCon in future years.

Blizzard emphasized that BlizzCon is a special event and it holds a special place in the hearts of their fans. The decision to cancel this year’s event was not an easy one, but they felt it was necessary for the safety of everyone involved.

The company also shared that they will release more details about their upcoming video games, including World of Warcraft: The War Within and the first expansion of Diablo IV, Vessel of Hatred. While BlizzCon may be canceled, Blizzard will still be participating in other industry events and conventions throughout 2024. They will also be organizing global events to celebrate Warcraft’s anniversary, which may be different from previous events but still carry the same spirit of celebration and community.

Blizzard mentioned that these events will continue to provide live broadcasts about news from their universes. The company faced criticism in 2020 when BlizzCon was canceled due to the pandemic and later due to cases of harassment and discrimination against employees. In 2021, BlizzCon was held in person again after four years being held digitally at Anaheim, California. Players were able to play their favorite titles and learn about new features for games like Diablo IV, Overwatch, and Warcraft Rumble.

Overall, while BlizzCon may not be happening next year, fans can rest assured that Blizzard is still committed to bringing them news about upcoming projects and celebrating their community together even if it’s through different means than before.
