Coastal cities around the world are facing a sinking rate of over 2mm per year, with more than two dozen US cities and nearly half of China’s major cities among those affected. This trend is driven by rising sea levels due to global heating. To understand the causes of this phenomenon and explore potential solutions, Madeleine Finlay interviews Prof Manoochehr Shirzaei of Virginia Tech University and Prof Robert Nicholls of the University of East Anglia.
