Egypt’s Sugar Reserves to Last Until the End of 2024

The Egyptian government has announced plans to address the ongoing sugar shortage in the country. According to an official from the Ministry of Agriculture, sugar reserves are sufficient until the end of 2024. The country aims to produce around 2.4 to 2.5 million tons of sugar this season to alleviate the crisis.

In recent months, Egypt has seen rising sugar prices, surpassing 50 Egyptian pounds ($1.05) per kilogram. This has caused concern among vendors, food and beverage companies, leading them to stockpile their supplies. In response, the government has implemented various measures to address the issue, including increasing subsidized sugar quantities in markets, initiatives to reduce prices, imposing a temporary ban on exports, and implementing tighter control measures.

The announcement from the Ministry of Agriculture provides some relief to the public regarding the sugar shortage. By producing more sugar and importing additional supplies, Egypt aims to stabilize sugar prices and ensure an adequate supply for its citizens. The government’s efforts demonstrate a commitment to resolving issues that impact the daily lives of its people.
