Alcoholism damages the hip joints of young men

25-year-old Mr. Hai, a resident of Son La, regularly consumed large amounts of alcohol, resulting in end-stage necrosis of the femoral heads on both sides. This led to severe pain and limited mobility in his hips, making it difficult for him to perform daily activities such as riding a motorbike or sitting with his legs crossed. Despite taking medication, the pain continued to worsen until he sought treatment at Tam Anh General Hospital in Hanoi.

After a thorough evaluation, Dr. Nguyen Quang Ton Quyen recommended bilateral hip replacement surgery for Mr. Hai due to his condition. Joint replacement surgery can be effective but carries some risks, especially for younger patients like Mr. Hai. However, using advanced techniques like the Superpath incision can help reduce pain, speed up recovery, and minimize the risk of complications.

Following the successful surgery, Mr. Hai experienced significant improvement in his mobility and pain levels. With proper post-operative care and rehabilitation, he was able to walk without crutches and resume his daily activities within a few weeks.

In conclusion, early intervention and proper lifestyle choices can help prevent conditions like femoral head necrosis that may require joint replacement surgery. It is essential to minimize alcohol consumption and maintain a balanced diet to restore normal joint function and avoid chronic pain caused by end-stage necrosis of the femoral heads on both sides.
