Harvey Weinstein admitted to Manhattan hospital due to health complications after train wreck incident

Weinstein, the former Hollywood producer, was admitted to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan on Saturday for various tests after his New York rape conviction was overturned. Despite being in custody, he will appear in court on May 1.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s office expressed their commitment to retrying the case and supporting sexual assault survivors after the court date was announced on Friday. They are determined to seek justice for the victims. Weinstein’s 2020 rape conviction was overturned by a slim majority in the New York Court of Appeals due to the admission of “prior bad acts” testimony from women who were not complainants in the trial.

Weinstein is currently serving a 16-year sentence in California following a rape conviction in 2022. The use of “prior bad acts” testimony is treated differently under California state law than it is under New York law, which may have impacted the outcome of his case. Despite this, Weinstein’s health remains a concern and he continues to receive medical care while in custody. His lawyer, Arthur Aidala, stated that Weinstein is facing health issues and receiving various tests at Bellevue Hospital.
