Could Troy Franklin Get a Starting Spot on the Denver Broncos? The go-to Receiver for QB Bo Nix

The Denver Broncos made a major move in the 2024 NFL Draft by selecting former Oregon wide receiver Troy Franklin in the fourth round. This selection not only reunites Franklin with his former teammate, quarterback Bo Nix, but also fills a crucial need for the Broncos at the receiver position.

Franklin brings versatility to the Broncos’ receiving group, offering both value as a secondary option for Nix’s top receiver or as a potent deep threat. He joins an impressive group of receivers that already includes Courtland Sutton and Josh Reynolds, who had standout seasons in 2023. In particular, Sutton had an impressive campaign with 90 catches, 772 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 13.1 yards per catch.

The addition of Franklin is expected to complement Sutton’s skills on the field and provide Nix with another target to work with. During their time together at Oregon, Franklin set records by becoming the all-time leader in receiving touchdowns with 25 and tying for the most 100-yard receiving games with 11. His experience catching passes from Nix will undoubtedly help him excel in Denver.

The Broncos also added veteran receiver Josh Reynolds in the offseason, who had a solid season with the Detroit Lions in 2023. Alongside Reynolds and Sutton, Franklin will contribute over 150 yards each last season to an already formidable receiving group. With Tim Patrick returning from injury and Brandon Johnson and Lil’Jordan Humphrey also contributing to the team’s success, this year’s Nix era in Denver looks promising indeed.
