Mental health staff from North Cumbria will embark on a walk along Hadrian’s Wall

A team of NHS workers from Carleton Clinic in Carlisle and West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven are planning to walk the entire length of Hadrian’s Wall to raise money for a mental health football team. The group, consisting of staff from six wards across the two hospitals, aims to complete the 84-mile (135km) trek in just three days.

Hannah Lund, clinical manager at Carleton Clinic, spoke about the importance of meaningful activities like the football group for individuals who are unwell or on the road to recovery. She emphasized how physical activity can greatly improve overall well-being both physically and mentally, as well as the positive impact that social interactions can have on people’s well-being. The football group provides an opportunity for individuals to connect with others who understand their struggles and build relationships within their local community.

Aaron Vaughn, inpatient matron at Carleton Clinic, expressed excitement about the upcoming walk and how it will bring together staff from various roles to boost their well-being while supporting a great cause. The football group is backed by the SHINE fund of Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW), and all money raised from the walk will be donated directly to the group for their ongoing support of individuals.
