Verlon Johnson of Acentra Health Appointed Chair of Medicaid and CHIP Payment Access Commission

Todd Stottlemyer, CEO of Acentra Health, commended Verlon Johnson’s appointment as the chair of the Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program Payment and Access Commission (MACPAC) by the Government Accountability Office. This appointment is in addition to her reappointment for a second consecutive 3-year term as a MACPAC commissioner. Johnson expressed her deep humility and honor at being recognized alongside such an exceptional team of commissioners and staff. She emphasized the importance of collaborating with the group to enhance Medicaid and CHIP, programs that are vital for millions of people.

Established in 2009, MACPAC is a non-partisan advisory committee that provides guidance to Congress, the Health and Human Services Department Secretary, and states on policy and access issues related to Medicaid and CHIP. As Chief Strategy Officer at Acentra Health, Johnson is responsible for overseeing the company’s growth strategy, including organic growth and acquisitions. Prior to her role at Acentra Health, she served as vice president of healthcare policy and management at IBM Watson Health’s government health and human services business group.

Senator Mark Warner (D-Va.) praised Johnson’s appointment, noting that her contributions as a MACPAC Commissioner have been valuable to Congress in addressing issues related to Medicaid and CHIP. Verlon Johnson is known as a nationally recognized expert in government healthcare programs having previously served in federal positions before joining Acentra Health. Her extensive experience in both public and private sector healthcare over the past three decades makes her an outstanding addition to the MACPAC team.
