The Turkish Foreign Minister seeks collaboration with pro-Iranian militias

Turkey, the first Muslim country to recognize Israel’s independence in 1949, has recently been involved in a series of meetings with Iranian officials. The Turkish Foreign Minister, Fidan, stated that pro-Iranian militias in Iraq are prepared to work with the Kurdish underground (PKK) in northern Iraq. This revelation has caused concern for Israel, especially given the ongoing tension between Turkey and Israel.

Fidan’s aggressive approach towards Israel includes involvement in projects that compete with Israeli initiatives. However, his recent statements suggest a shift in direction towards Iran and potential security partners in the region. While negotiations are ongoing between Israel and Hamas through different mediators, Fidan’s comments shed light on Turkey’s role in the region.

In regards to the Palestinian issue and Gaza Strip, Fidan advocates for a two-state solution based on pre-1967 borders. This stance differs from previous Turkish policies and may indicate a shift in approach towards the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Despite ongoing tensions in the region, Fidan remains hopeful for a resolution that could prevent further conflict.
