Urrutia Breaks Silence, Highlights “Recovery of the Country” Challenge

Edmundo González Urrutia, the 74-year-old diplomat chosen by the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) as the opposition representative in Venezuela’s upcoming presidential elections, made his first public statement on Wednesday. In a video published on YouTube, Urrutia highlighted the challenges facing the country and shared his vision for overcoming them.

He emphasized that Venezuela needs to focus on its recovery in the face of increasing poverty, inflation, and devaluation of the currency. He promised a Venezuela where individuals are not persecuted for their ideas and pledged to work towards a transition that guarantees freedom for political prisoners, the return of exiles, and the independence of public authorities.

Drawing on his experience in diplomacy, Urrutia expressed his understanding of Venezuela’s role in a turbulent world filled with conflict. He acknowledged that his candidacy was unexpected but expressed his gratitude for the support of key figures like María Corina Machado and Manuel Rosales, who both played a role in making his candidacy possible.

Despite facing obstacles such as disqualifications and bans from Maduro regime, Urrutia remains committed to his vision for a democratic and prosperous Venezuela. He emphasized the importance of unity within the opposition and his determination to lead the country towards a brighter future.
