Exploring the New Long-Range Missiles Delivered by the United States to Ukraine

In a major development, the United States delivered long-range ATACMS missiles to Ukraine in March, even before the American Congress approved new aid to Kyiv. President Joe Biden made the direct request for the shipment of these missiles in February, which arrived in Ukraine as part of the latest aid package.

The arrival of these missiles on the frontlines marks a significant turning point for Ukraine, as they can reach Russian bases with ease. The use of these missiles has been deemed crucial for Ukraine’s success and it has requested partners to provide them as soon as possible for use within its borders.

The ATACMS missiles, also known as MGM-140, have a much greater range than the missiles Ukraine previously had. Their significance in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia cannot be understated.

In the past, there were concerns about delivering such missiles to Ukraine due to fears that it could escalate the conflict with Russia. However, after their successful use by Ukraine against Russia in October 2021, it is clear that these missiles have proven to be a game-changer for Kyiv’s defense capabilities.
