Ukraine targets oil refinery in Bashkiria, 1,500 km away from border

On May 9, Ukrainian drones carried out a targeted attack on an oil depot in the Krasnodar Territory of Russia, causing a fire at the site. This was followed by a drone attack on the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat oil refinery in Bashkiria, setting a new record of over 1,500 kilometers.

The Ukrainian Security Service is believed to have been responsible for both attacks, targeting strategic oil facilities in the region. The drone used in the second attack hit an oil catalytic cracking installation at the refinery, causing damage.

These incidents highlight escalating tensions and conflicts in the region, with unmanned aerial vehicles being used in targeted attacks on critical infrastructure. The security of critical infrastructure and potential disruptions in the oil and gas sector are now major concerns as authorities increase surveillance and security measures to prevent future attacks and safeguard vital facilities from similar incidents.
