5,000 patents filed in the UAE

The UAE has achieved a milestone in the field of intellectual property by surpassing 5,000 patents registered, with an increase of 19.5% from the previous year. This was announced by the Ministry of Economy, which emphasized the importance of protecting intellectual property as a crucial component of sustainable development across all sectors.

The country has taken a proactive approach to creating a legal and regulatory environment that safeguards intellectual property rights and supports entrepreneurs with innovative ideas and projects. Abdullah Al Saleh, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy, highlighted the UAE’s success in establishing a pioneering legislative framework for intellectual property that adheres to global standards.

Al Saleh noted that the Ministry has implemented three laws to regulate and protect industrial property rights, trademarks, copyrights, and related rights, along with launching 11 initiatives to support intellectual property applications. These measures have contributed to an environment that fosters intellectual property activities and innovation in the country.

To celebrate World Intellectual Property Day on April 26th this year, the Ministry of Economy is organizing a series of seminars, workshops, and competitions from April 22nd to 30th. The aim is to raise awareness about national laws related to intellectual works among people from all walks of life. These events will highlight how intellectual property rights can stimulate innovation, support science and technology fields and promote sustainability in intellectual works.

The theme for this year’s World Intellectual Property Day is “Innovation: Turning Ideas into Reality”. The Ministry of Economy is committed to providing opportunities for talented individuals with creative ideas who can transform their ideas into successful projects contributing positively to economic growth and sustainability.

Overall, these efforts demonstrate the UAE’s commitment to promoting innovation through protection of intellectual property rights while supporting entrepreneurs with innovative ideas.
