The 22nd Annual Texas Science Olympiad to be Hosted at Texas A&M University

On Friday, the Brazos County Expo Complex in Bryan will host build/design-themed events open to the public from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This will be followed by laboratory and knowledge-based competitions on Saturday at Texas A&M campus, which are restricted to participants only. The two-day competition will conclude with an awards ceremony on Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m. in Texas A&M’s Rudder Auditorium.

During the “Towers” event at the Texas Science Olympiad, a competitor observed as a judge measured her balsa wood tower. Students in this event compete to design and build the lightest and tallest towers that can withstand a heavy load. The rigorous academic contest covers a variety of science, engineering, and technology topics, aiming to improve the quality of science education in schools. Each challenge is designed to test students’ knowledge through problem-solving skills and teamwork.

Each competing school can enter one team of 15 students in either Division B (grades 6-9) or Division C (grades 9-12). Over the two-day competition, students will showcase their skills by constructing the longest-flying gliders, tallest towers, most efficient boom and battery-powered cars, launching indoor bottle rockets, detecting diseases, and discerning potions and poisons. Nearly 200 Texas A&M and Blinn College faculty, staff, and students, along with local coordinators from the Brazos Valley, will be present to set up and judge the 56 events of the competition.
