Tennessee Titans’ 2024 NFL Draft: Strong start with top pick, but struggle to maintain momentum

The Titans made a splash in the first round of the NFL draft with their selection of offensive tackle JC Latham. Latham’s talent and potential to start right away have generated excitement for the team, as he is expected to bring value and promise to the left tackle position. Although the Titans may have reached with some of their later picks, landing Cedric Gray in the fourth round was a steal for the team.

The Titans’ favorite pick was undoubtedly JC Latham, who was originally considered for the fifth overall pick. Latham’s strengths in both run protection and game will be an asset alongside Will Levis, Calvin Ridley, and DeAndre Hopkins. This decision was well-rounded and addressed a need for the team without overcomplicating matters.

On the opposite end of things, T’Vondre Sweat from Texas was not as popular among fans as JC Latham. Despite being a massive run stuffer, Sweat lacks pass rush abilities at an NFL level, making his value questionable as an early second-round pick. However, if Sweat can make adjustments and become a three-down player, this pick could pay off in the long run.

The Titans also selected Cedric Gray in later rounds of the draft along with Jarvis Brownlee Jr., Jha’Quan Jackson, James Williams, and Jaylen Harrell. Each of these players will have to prove themselves before they can show their worth to the team in upcoming seasons.

Overall, while there may not be much excitement surrounding this draft class unless T’Vondre Sweat develops into a pass rusher or another player proves themselves valuable to the team in future seasons.
