Shane Singletary, RN, of SGMC Health has been recognized with the prestigious DAISY Award for his exceptional nursing care. Singletary was nominated for his compassionate end-of-life care, which touched the heart of a patient’s family member, Tammy Richardson.
Singletary’s dedication and commitment to providing exceptional care were evident in how he handled a difficult situation. In her nomination, Richardson shared the emotional experience of having to make the tough decision to stop life-sustaining measures on her grandmother. After a long and emotional day, Singletary provided incredible support to the family. He treated them with kindness and respect, giving them comfort and reassurance during a difficult time.
At SGMC Health, nurses like Singletary are celebrated for going above and beyond in their care. Nominations for the DAISY award are reviewed by a committee based on criteria such as compassion, teamwork, leadership, attitude, and skills. Honorees are celebrated monthly in front of their colleagues, patients, physicians, and visitors.
Each DAISY award recipient receives a certificate acknowledging their exceptional nursing care. They also receive a hand-carved sculpture called A Healer’s Touch made by artists from the Shona Tribe in Africa. As a special touch, a beautiful floral arrangement of daisies is donated by The Flower Gallery, the local sponsor of SGMC Health’s DAISY Award.
