Tesla has announced a recall of nearly 4,000 Cybertrucks due to an issue with the accelerator pedal. The problem, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), is caused by the use of soap during the assembly process that was not approved. This has led to reduced retention of the pad to the pedal, which can cause the accelerator to get stuck in the down position when high force is applied.
The NHTSA has ordered this recall and stated that it affects all Model Year 2024 Cybertruck vehicles manufactured from November 13, 2023, to April 4, 2024. The total number of Cybertrucks produced by Tesla remains unknown, but production has been slowly increasing since late November when the first deliveries were made.
This recall affects around 3,878 trucks that are likely currently on US roads. The issue was brought to light through social media and online discussions where reports of the accelerator sticking problem were shared.
Tesla has yet to respond to requests for comment on this issue, but it is known that owners will need to bring their Cybertrucks to Tesla service centers for a repair at no cost. Unlike previous recalls that could be fixed through software updates, this recall requires physical repairs at a service center.
